It's a Clean Sweep
First impressions count. Curb appeal can go a long way to selling your home. Make sure your lawn is neat and tidy, your flower beds are weeded and your shrubs are trimmed. Clean up around your front yard, removing any toys, sweep your walkway and make sure that your flower pots are attractive and well-watered. Remove cobwebs around your porch and clean the windows and door. Depending on the season, rake leaves or shovel the walk – make sure that the first impression is a welcoming one.
Inexpensive solutions. Getting your house ready for sale doesn't necessarily mean that you have to go in for huge renovations. Sometimes an inexpensive coat of paint can make all the difference and revive a tired room. Choose neutral tones and keep strong colours for your new home. Take the time to clean and tidy up. Remove clutter, paring down your possessions. A potential buyer wants to be able to imagine their own things in the space and not be overwhelmed by all your items. Removing unnecessary furniture can leave small rooms feeling spacious.
Fix potentially annoying problems. Leaky taps and discoloured sinks and toilets can turn buyers off because they'll assume that there are bigger and more expensive problems lurking under the surface. Take the time to do it right. Make sure that all your light switches work and that none of your bulbs are burnt out. Fix sticky closet and cabinet doors.
Clean before you show. Make sure you clean before each showing, wipe down counters and tidy up. Nothing says go away faster to a potential buyer than a messy and dirty house. If your showings are at night, turn on all the lights in the home, both inside and out and create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. If you're showing during the day, open the curtains and let the light stream in.
